Paraffin Wax is one of the most widely used petroleum-based products, derived from the refining of crude oil. It consists mainly of saturated hydrocarbons (alkanes) and is available in solid, liquid, and gel forms, depending on its refining level and physical structure.

Thanks to its chemical stability, cost efficiency, and broad functionality, paraffin wax plays a vital role in industries such as candle making, cosmetics, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and various industrial applications.

Types of Paraffin Wax

Based on Refining Level

  • Fully Refined Paraffin Wax
High purity with very low oil content. Suitable for sensitive applications requiring high quality and cleanliness.

  • Semi Refined Paraffin Wax
Medium purity with slightly higher oil content. Commonly used in standard industrial applications and candle production.

  • Crude Paraffin Wax
Contains the highest oil content and impurities. Mainly used as a raw material for further refining processes.

Based on Physical Form

  • Solid Paraffin Wax
The most common form, supplied in slabs or flakes, widely used across multiple industries.

  • Liquid Paraffin (Mineral Oil)
Colorless, odorless liquid used in industrial, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food-related applications.

  • Gel Paraffin
Mainly used for decorative and specialty candles.

Applications of Paraffin Wax

Candle Manufacturing

Solid paraffin wax is the primary raw material in candle production due to its controlled melting point and excellent ability to absorb color and fragrance.

Cosmetics & Personal Care

Used in creams, lotions, and skincare products as a moisture barrier and skin-protective agent, helping to prevent water loss.

Food Industry

Food-grade paraffin is applied as a protective coating for fruits and certain food products to extend shelf life.

Medical & Therapeutic Uses

Paraffin is widely used in heat therapy to relieve muscle pain, joint stiffness, inflammation, and to improve blood circulation.

Industrial Applications

  • Electrical insulation

  • Lubrication of tools and equipment

  • Anti-corrosion coatings

  • Raw material for rubber and paint industries

  • Protective and packaging coatings
